Bacon is Magic captures the Simmons energy
Ayngelina Brogan, food blogger, Bacon is Magic, from Toronto travelled to Alberta on a food journey to discover what was new, what was fresh, and what she could tell the world about this modest prairie province that has typically had the reputation of steak and potatoes. What she and her partner, Dave Mottershall (chef/owner of Loka Snacks, Toronto), discovered in YYC was, not just an emerging food scene full of talented chefs and tasty dishes being served up throughout this great city, but also the strength of our collaborative culinary community. Here they are at the historical Simmons building, where we call home with our partners Phil & Sebastian Coffee Roasters and Sidewalk Citizen Bakery.
ET Canada came to cook with Jessica
In the lead up to the JUNO excitement we were invited to be on ET Canada to chat and cook with ET Canada's latest VJ Jake Mossop!
All in the family
Our good friend and talented chef and member of the WCR was recently published in Restaurants Canada magazine and had this to say about Family Style dining and why it's here to stay.
“Family-style dining is my favourite way to cook for people, making food we can all sit down and share together,” says Pelland. “I really connected with the Argentinian asado (barbecue) when I spent time cooking in Buenos Aires this past year. We have brought that same style of eating to our diners at charbar, all inspired by local ingredients.”

GWENDOLYN RICHARDS, CALGARY HERALD, PUBLISHED OCTOBER 8th, 2015
Jessica sat down with Calgary Herald food writer, Gwendolyn Richards, to talk 'real' about reality TV and her behind the scenes experience in the Chopped Canada kitchen.
“The clock starts at that moment and I’m like, ‘Oh s—, there’s no time.’ As soon as I started it was like, I’m in a kitchen, it’s just a kitchen, I’m going to cook.”
From the ground up
We are so honoured to be on the cover of Foodservice & Hospitality magazine and humbled to be asked to tell our story, introduce charbar to our peers and welcome you all to have a peek inside the Simmons Building in the East Village of Calgary, AB.
